If I were a rich man, la di da di da di....
No, wait.
Everyone has their traditions for the holidays. The day after Thanksgiving as most of you know is called Black Friday. Stores put on huge sales to go from "the red" (deficit) and back into "the black" (profit). There are crazy shoppers who spend hours and hours starting in the wee hours of the morning looking for a great deal. Not me.
Me? My traditions include spending the entire daylight hours at home avoiding any and all retail spaces possible. This year I spent the day in Albion playing Fable 2 on my xBox 360. I got so into the game I forgot to eat lunch. Don't worry, I ate dinner. But that's not my only tradition.
You might recall I'm an alumni of Pitt. Thanksgiving means one thing to a Pitt fan. Backyard Brawl. This year marks the one hundred and first meeting of Pitt and West Virginia. Last year, in case you forgot, Pitt walloped on WVU. My friends and I were at the game in Pittsburgh, sitting in the middle of the visitors section (Pitt really doesn't know how to treat it's less wealthy alumni). With a couple flasks of whiskey and a small group of your best friends you bet I had a good time. This year we'll be watching from home though. I'm not quite ready to go into Mountaineer country for this football game. At least not without my license to carry and a firearm....
And one last tradition for after the game. I'll be hanging out with high school friends. The holidays are the only time a few of my friends make it home so it's a good excuse for all of us to get together. It also helps that one of their parents is a gambler and likes to play poker with "the kids" for dimes. Completely friendly game. It's not about winning money (usually...) but about spending time together. This usually happens around Thanksgiving and Christmas and has started as early as seven pm and ended as late as seven am. I don't see that happening tonight but it could tomorrow. Time will only tell.
Here's to tradition.
Hail to Pitt!
